Melvin Seals to perform with The Garcia Project at the 2013 Jerry Jam Music Festival!
Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 2:31PM We are pleased to announce that Melvin Seals will now be performing on Friday night, July 26 with The Garcia Project as well as Saturday night, July 27 with JGB Band, at Jerry Jam 2013. TWO NIGHTS WITH MELVIN SEALS!

Jerry Jam, hosted by Dan Webb, has been growing in popularity over the past few years. He started the festival 18 years ago as a way to remember and celebrate Jerry Garcia. In 2012, Jerry Jam hosted over 3,000 "Jammers" on Dodge Farm in beautiful Bath, NY. Jerry Jam's motto is "Kind Minds and Good Times" - this is a festival that the whole family can enjoy. There is an excellent round up of bands, quality vendors for food, merchandise, souvenirs and more. A beautiful stream runs through the farm with layers of flat land, hills and rolling, scenic country fields. The concert field has a large shade tent right behind the sound booth, so you can enjoy the music all day, every day! You definitely want to get your tickets early and bring your whole family! The Garcia Project has played the Friday night main stage slot since 2011. This year we will be there again, but this year with the legendary Melvin Seals on the Hammond keyboard!
On Friday, July 26th, The Garcia Project will perform their own arrangements of some classic Jerry Garcia Band songs at Jerry Jam 2013. The Garcia Project line-up scheduled for the night is: Melvin Seals on keyboards, Kat Walkerson on vocals, Mik Bondy on Guitar and vocals, Dan Crea on bass and Aaron Martin on drums.
On Saturday night, July 27, Melvin Seals and JGB Band will perform. Melvin Seals performed with Jerry Garcia as the organist for The Jerry Garcia Band from 1980 to 1995, when Jerry Garcia passed away. Melvin shared the stage with Jerry Garcia for 15 years! Since then, Melvin has put together the JGB Band and is currently touring with Jimmy Tebeau on bass, Pete Lavezzoli on drums, Shirley Starks on vocals, Cheryl Rucker on vocals, and Dave Herbert on guitar and vocals.
The rest of the weekend is packed full of a traditional line-up of excellent bands of kind folks and great musicians: Dead Undercover (Jerry Jam's long time resident Grateful Dead band), The Van Burens, The Blind Owl Band, Crunchy Western Boys, Jatoba, Girls Guns & Glory, Donkilo Afrofunk Orkestra, One Over Zero, Blame the Dog, Rocky and the Pressers, Somerville Symphony Orkestar, Cause & Effect, Barnyard Pimps, Jack Alexander, Nate & Linny, Chickweed, GrassFed Boys, Erin Earth, Hot Mess, and Strawberry Farm Band.
This is going to be a special weekend of music and family in a beautiful location. The Garcia Project will be performing recreations of the Jerry Garcia Band experience throughout 2013 and beyond enjoying our current rotating line-up of talented keyboardists. Upstate Live Review of The Garcia Project from 2-1-13
Monday, February 11, 2013 at 12:09PM Jim Gilbert wrote a nice article about the band and the scene for Upstate Live magazine. He als took some GREAT photos!
"From the first notes of the night, “Sugaree”, the dance floor was full and people were singing along. The set went on and songs went off to spectacular jams, only to be pulled back into the pleasing duo of Mik Bondy and Kat Walkerson on vocals. In math, there is a theory that the sum of two parts can not be greater than the whole. Thankfully in music, that logic is thrown out – because while Mik and Kat are great singers on their own, they are better together."
